LPG supplies delayed

November 12, 2010 12:52 am | Updated 12:52 am IST - CHENNAI:

Indian Oil Corporation on Thursday said that there is a delay in supplying LPG cylinders to the distributors.

It attributed the delay to certain unavoidable operational and logistics constraints, mainly owing to the heavy damage caused by the recent rain to the roads leading to its LPG bottling plants in Ennore and Manali.

Adequate stocks

A press release from the IOC said: “Adequate stocks of LPG cylinders are available in our plants and we are taking all necessary steps to restore normality as quick as possible.”

While there is no restriction on booking of LPG refills, the supplies would be made based on availability of filled cylinders with the distributors, past consumption pattern of the customer and seniority of customer booking, the release said.

It asked the customers not to panic as necessary actions were now being taken to position adequate supplies with the distributors.

Indane Distributors' Association, Chennai Area, president A. Ramachandran said that one of the reasons for the delay was the transporters' refusal to unload the filled cylinders at distributors' godown and load the empty cylinders.

Though a solution was agreed upon last month, it did not work, he added.
