The widening of the Thirumazhisai-Sathyavedu Road, which leads to the Tiruvallur Collector office, is in the final stages of completion. The project has been pending for several years now.

The State Highways Department had proposed to widen the road along the stretch of six kilometres from Thirumazhisai to Kadapakkam at a cost of Rs. 17.09 crore in two stretches. An official of the State Highways said that at present, stormwater drain work was proceeding at the Thirumazhisai junction for a stretch of one kilometre. Once the drain construction work was over, the road widening work costing Rs. 3.96 crore would be done as would be the black topping by this month-end. The other stretch between Nemam and Kadapakkam executed at a cost of Rs. 13.13 crore would also be completed very soon.

The State Government as part of transportation improvement scheme in Tiruvallur District had given sanction to widen the Thirumazhisai-Sathyavedu Road in 2004, along with Chennai-Chithoor-Bangalore Road and Red Hills-Tiruvallur Road. All these roads were proposed to be expanded from two lanes to four lanes.

The official said that widening of the Chennai-Chithoor-Bangalore Road for 2.20 kms, which was planned to be executed at a cost of Rs. 18.30 crore, was under progress, and the Singaperumal Koil-Sriperumbudur-Thiruvallur-Red Hills Road for a length of 13.40 kms would be costing Rs. 37.87 crore. While the stretch of 8.80 km from Tiruvallur to Keelanur has been completed at 26.04 crore, work is progress between Thiruvallur and Madhavaram for a stretch of 4.60 km.

Both the Thirumazhisai-Sathyavedu Road and Thiruvallur-Red Hills Road branch out from Poonamallee High Road and link the industries located in Tiruvallur.
