Subscribers of Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable Television (TACTV) will be able to access the digital signal transmission facility only after their local cable television service provider clears the backlog that it owes to the Corporation.
Enquiries reveal that in nine taluks coming under the TACTV Kancheepuram District Unit, the subscription amount due from the 1,109 local cable television operators (LCO) had crossed ₹4 crore.
The default period ranges from 10 months to 48 months, and even more in some cases. Now, with the Union Broadcasting Ministry granting Digital Addressable System ( DAS) licence to TACTV, the Corporation had stepped up its overdue collection drive to meet the expenditure involved in the purchase of set-top boxes (STB), sources pointed out.
A total of 2,04,554 households has subscribed for TACTV connections through the 1,109 LCOs. As far as the distribution of STBs is concerned, it has been proposed to provide the STBs only to those subscribers whose LCO(s) had cleared the backlog [in payment].
Payment deadline
The LOCs have been instructed to remit 50% of the overdue they owe to the Corporation by April 30 and the remaining by May 15, failing which their link to TACTV would be disconnected, sources added.
The operators have also been advised to remit monthly subscription amount on or before the 15th day of the calendar month from the coming month.
