Lingaa’s distributors claim loss

December 21, 2014 08:25 am | Updated December 05, 2021 09:08 am IST - CHENNAI:

A section of the media recently reported that the distributors of Rajinikanth’s latest film Lingaa claimed they had suffered huge losses on the film.

The distributors reportedly complained that the film was released at a time when schools’ half-yearly exams are underway.

Subsequently, Vendhar Movies, which had bought Lingaa’s distribution rights, released a press note stating the film had not done as well as they had expected. However, it said, families have started coming in to watch the movie.

T. Siva, a representative of Vendhar Movies, said that it was premature to talk about the film’s revenue as it had not even been a week since its release. “It is true that the film has not been doing as well as we would have expected. Probably, we shouldn’t have released it on December 12. But, we are sure that the film will pick up during the Christmas holidays.”

He further said that it was possible some distributors might have been convinced they could get money by appealing to the film’s producers on camera. “The movie was not overpriced as it has been suggested,” he said.
