Even as the distributors of Lingaa plan a fast on Saturday, seeking actor Rajinikanth’s intervention to obtain compensation for their alleged losses, the Tamil actors’ association, Nadigar Sangam, has thrown its weight behind Rajinikanth.

In a statement signed by office-bearers Sarath Kumar and Radha Ravi, the association said the business of film distribution came with its own risks and it was unfair to seek damages from Rajinikanth, who was just an actor.

Distributors defiant

The distributors of Lingaa however rejected this line of argument.

Sai N. Krishnakumar of Capricorn Pictures, who distributed the film in North Arcot, South Arcot and Pondicherry areas, said, “Rockline Venkatesh (the producer) is not someone who is a regular in the Tamil film scene. Rajinikanth’s stature as an actor allows him to decide who gets to produce his film. Everybody knows this.”

The association said Rajinikanth is only an actor in the film and negotiations should be with the producer

Distributors argued that the stature of the actor allowed him to decide who produced his film
