A Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) wireman in Ponneri on Monday was assaulted by residents irked by intermittent power supply.

On Monday night at 8.30 p.m., residents of Medhur in Ponneri faced power cuts. Irked by this, some residents went to the local TANGEDCO office and allegedly attacked the wireman Dhanapal. He was admitted to a hospital at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The situation of frequent power cuts has been prevalent recently not only in the suburbs. Residents in the city, as well, have been facing frequent outages. Outages affected residents of Nanganallur for many hours on Monday.

“There was no power from 11.30 p.m. on Monday to 2 a.m. on Tuesday. Again the supply was interrupted at 11.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday. But the officials did not implement load shedding which is usually from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.,” said V. Ramarao, a resident of the locality.

Meanwhile, TANGEDCO officials said it was a technical snag.
