The function at Satyam Cinemas almost seemed like a family affair, with the father-daughter duo stealing the limelight. It was the audio release of Kamal Haasan’s much-awaited “Unnai Pol Oruvan,” for which daughter Sruthi Haasan has composed the music. The film, directed by Chakri Toleti, and produced by Kamal Haasan and Ronnie Screwvala, also stars Malayalam sensation Mohan Lal. The first audio CD of the film was released by A.V.M. Saravanan and received by director K. Balachander. The audio is brought out by Think Music.

For a person who lives and breathes films, it was evident that Kamal Haasan holds his guru KB, AVM studio where his acting career took off, and his fans, close to his heart.

And, on stage what everyone saw was a very proud father. A beaming Kamal Haasan said: “I wanted Sruthi to receive blessings from music greats such as M.S. Viswanathan (who made it to the event despite poor health), Ilaiyaraaja and A.R. Rahman. I don’t know much about music (this from a man who has sung many songs and has trained under none other than Balamuralikrishna himself!), but I can safely say that the songs sound good, particularly the ones written by Manushyaputhran. Am sure people will be hooked to them.”

The darling of the evening, Sruthi Haasan, said that even as a kid it was her dream to score music for her father’s film. “Today, my dream has come true. And, it’s a great start. I am humbled standing in front of industry veterans such as M.S. Viswanathan, A.V.M. Saravanan and K. Balachander. It is one of the most important days of my life, and I thank everyone who made it possible, including Gowthami who stood by my side, my sisters Akshara and Subbulakshmi, and a whole lot of musicians.”

We got to listen to two of the songs and it looks like the star daughter has passed the acid test.
