Light showers hit some areas

After a hot morning, several areas in the city, including Velachery, Perungudi, Taramani, Adyar and Besant Nagar received light showers on Sunday evening. The rain lasted for around half an hour from 4.45 p.m., and helped bring down the temperature.

The Taramani automatic weather station recorded 1 mm of rainfall.

According to meteorology department officials, the sea breeze did not set in on Sunday. The maximum temperature at the Nungambakkam observatory was 38.4 degree Celsius, while at the Meenambakkam observatory, it was 37.1 degrees.

The forecast for this week is subdued rainfall over parts of north Tamil Nadu. Over the next 2 or 3 days, the city will not get much rainfall. Sky conditions will be partly cloudy. Surface winds will be strong and gusty at times.

The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 38 and 28 degree Celsius respectively.
