The residents could look forward to pleasant weather on Friday too as a trough that extends from the Comorin area to south Tamil Nadu coast across the Palk Strait is expected to bring light showers.

Officials of the Meteorological department said that though the rainfall has reduced, the northeast monsoon is still active and more showers are likely.

Overcast sky and light rain in many areas such as Anna Nagar, Egmore, Aminjikarai and Adyar helped in keeping the city cool on Thursday.

The maximum temperature recorded at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam on Thursday was 28 degree Celsius. Both the observatories registered trace rainfall. The automatic weather station in Madhavaram recorded 3 mm.

Since the onset of the northeast monsoon, Chennai has received 717 mm of rainfall, which is normal, the officials said.
