One more railway level crossing in the southern suburbs of Chennai on the Chengalpattu-Tambaram-Chennai Beach was closed on Thursday. While there was a section of residents that objected to the closing of the railway level crossing (LC No.26), near the S.D.N.B. Vaishnav College for Women in Chromepet, Southern Railway officials said this was part of the “through put enhancement” of the ‘gauge conversion scheme'.
K.Raghavan, Municipal Councillor of Ward No. 25 of Pallavaram Municipality said that if this railway level crossing was closed motorists would have to take a circuitous route, entailing an additional three km on either side.
However, Southern Railway engineers said that a road overbridge was completed between Chromepet and Pallavaram railway stations. Further a subway was nearing completion at Radha Nagar level crossing.
