The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Tuesday sealed Leela Business Park, an IT building in MRC Nagar, for violating building norms and constructing a 14 floor despite the sanctioning of only 13 floors.

According to a press release, the owner of the building obtained planning permission on May 6, 2010 from the CMDA for the construction of a multi-storied building.

The CMDA approved the original plan of the IT building with a triple basement floor, stilt floor, ground floor and 13 floors.

This year, the CMDA’s enforcement wing identified a 14th floor in the building, constructed in violation of the plan. Officials issued a notice for the removal of this unauthorised development on February 4.

“Even though we gave sufficient time and opportunity, the owner did not rectify the deviation. So we locked and sealed the entire building on Tuesday,” said a CMDA official

As part of the CMDA’s efforts to check unauthorised constructions, 99 buildings have been locked and sealed this year in the Chennai metropolitan area.
