Leaks found in Metro trains

January 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

Even before they are up and running, some of the state-of the-art Chennai Metro trains have developed leaks in their roofs, say officials.

After Mumbai Metro Rail trains were flooded during the monsoon, officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) decided to check for leaks in the trains here, sources said. When they created an artificial environment using sprinklers to simulate rains, water seeped through the roofs of four of them. “This is not uncommon. We are in the process of rectifying this problem. The trains will be repaired before commercial operations begin,” a CMRL official said.

CMRL had awarded a contract of Rs. 1,471 crore to France-based Alstom Transport for manufacturing the trains in 2010. “If there are major problems, we will ensure they are rectified by Alstom,” another official said.
