Lawyers condole death of Bar Association leader

A section of high court lawyers who are protesting against the recent amendments made to the statutory rules of the court, on Monday organised a condolence meeting in memory of a Bar association leader who died on Friday.

The 63-year-old P. Muthuramalingam, president of Tirunelveli Bar Association and one of the 126 advocates recently suspended by Bar Council of India (BCI), died of a heart attack on Friday morning.

A section of lawyers assembled near the Aavin Gate of the High Court on Monday morning and organised a condolence meeting.

Later, about 50 advocates took out a rally towards the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry building on the high court premises and dispersed peacefully.

Police personnel in large numbers were deployed around the State Bar Council building, which was closed in view of the meeting.

He was one of the 126 advocates recently suspended by Bar Council of India (BCI)
