A team of officials from the Labour Court on Wednesday visited the Chennai Corporation zonal office in Ambattur for attachment of movable property.

The officials identified seven lorries for attachment but did not attach the movables after Corporation officials requested one week for settlement.

The Labour Court ordered attachment of movables for part-payment of salary for 13 labourers of the erstwhile Ambattur Municipality. The municipality was merged with the Chennai Corporation last year.

According to the court order, each of the labourers will receive around Rs. 1 lakh from the civic body. The employees’ two-year probationary period was to be considered as permanent employment. Chennai Corporation commissioner D. Karthikeyan said that the civic body has filed a writ petition in the High Court to set aside the orders of the Labour Court. “Whatever the High Court orders, we will obey,” he said.
