Members of the Koyambedu Vegetable, Fruit and Flower Markets Shop Owners Welfare Association on Thursday staged a protest demanding the removal of officials governing the market. They also demanded the management of the market be handed over to them.

The association president M. Thyagarajan said maintenance was being done in a very poor manner and water supply had not been provided as promised. Without consulting traders, the officials were planning to increase the rent per square foot from ₹1 to ₹5 and reduce the unloading time for trucks from 12 hours to 4 hours, while increasing the fee from ₹160 to ₹200.
