KMCH to get two new hostels

November 18, 2013 09:37 am | Updated 09:37 am IST - CHENNAI:

Two new undergraduate hostels for boys and girls will come up at Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital (KMCH).

Officials of the health department said the increase in MBBS seats from 100 to 150 at KMCH necessitated additional accommodation for students. The directorate of medical education had sent a proposal to the government for constructing two hostels to accommodate 150 boys and 150 girls.

A government order sanctioning Rs. 7.88 crore for the two hostels — Rs. 4.06 crore for the boys’ hostel and Rs. 3.82 crore for the girls’ hostel — has been issued.

A college official said the new hostel for girls will come up near the existing girls’ hostel inside the hospital campus. “A connecting corridor will be constructed for the two hostels. The new buildings will definitely help us in accommodating more students,” he said.
