The Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s terminus-cum-depot on Anna Main Road in K.K. Nagar is lacking in basic amenities.
Over 130 bus services are operated from this facility, which is spread over four acres, to various parts of the city, which include Broadway, Anna Square, Iyyapantangal, Vadapalani, T. Nagar, Tambaram, Mandaveli, Anna Nagar, CMBT and Thiruvanmiyur.
The K.K. Nagar bus terminus is one of the oldest termini in the city.
Commuters complain the spacious facility lacks seating arrangement and the shelters are broken.
Among the other features that are conspicuous by their absence are a digital time board and a public announcement system.
The floor of the terminus is around one foot below the road level, which results in inundation during heavy rain. The conventional sodium vapour lamps are dim; most of the lamps don’t function.
There are no washrooms for the MTC staff and, therefore, they relieve themselves in the open.
“Steps will be taken to provide basic facilities at the terminus,” says an MTC official.
