The 14-year-old boy had gone missing on Friday evening after he had returned from school

A teenager who was allegedly kidnapped from outside his house in Tiruvottiyur on Friday evening is said to be safe in Nagpur, police have said.

A city police team has left to Nagpur to bring back the boy.

Tiruvottiyur police said the class VIII boy, who resides on Mettu Street, was missing from 5 p.m. on Friday, after he went out of the house after returning from school.

His parents and relatives searched for him and later lodged a police complaint on Saturday.

“The 14-year-old boy had given a gift to a 16-year-old girl going to a nearby school and her parents had threatened the boy. We suspect that two men sent by the girl's father kidnapped the boy in a car on Friday evening and abandoned him in Nagpur,” said Sahadev Ram, the boy's uncle.

He added that his nephew was spotted by a Nagpur local, who later telephoned the boy's father Devaram Choudhary.

Joint Commissioner of Police (North) N.K. Senthamarai Kannan said that a boy missing case was registered at the Tiruvottiyur police station.

A team has been sent to Nagpur to bring the boy, who is now in his relative's house in Nagpur.

“We need to hear his version to ascertain whether he was kidnapped. If that is true, we will apprehend the culprits,” Mr. Kannan added.
