Following a work undertaken by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB), a one-kilometre stretch beginning at the intersection of LIC Colony Main Road and Velachery Main Road has not been relaid. Residents say that it is more than three months since CMWSSB completed the laying of underground sewage pipes on Velachery Main Road.

This stretch, which connects Velachery Main Road to Pallikaranai Sewage Treatment Plant through Velachery Check Post and is usually very busy, has not been been relaid by the Greater Chennai Corporation.

The stretch, which has been classified as a “bus route road” by the Corporation, has now become considerably narrow. Motorists can often be seen jumping lanes, to the dismay of the motorists coming in the opposite direction. Haphazard parking of vehicles on the stretch, especially near Velachery sub station, makes things even more difficult for motorists. “Negotiating the stretch near Mettu Street is an uphill task. Many motorists have skidded and hurt themselves. During rain, the stretch gets riskier,” says S. Kumararaja, a resident of Velachery.
