Karunanidhi slams Sena protest, spurns ‘thaali’ removal

April 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - CHENNAI:

While condemning the Shiv Sena for trespassing into Periyar Thidal, the headquarters of Dravidar Kazhagam (DK), DMK leader M. Karunanidhi distanced himself from the ‘thaali’ removal protest organised by the DK.

In a statement here, he recalled his earlier stand that wearing or not wearing ‘thaali’ was an individual’s preference.

“When I participated in a similar event in the past, DK president K. Veeramani asked me to remove ‘thaalis’. But I openly resisted the idea. Also, I have never compelled anyone to take part in event of the Dravidiar Kazhagam,” he said.

On members of the Shiv Sena entering Periyar Thidal and protesting, he said, “The police remained mute spectators. In fact they incited Shiv Sena men to attack Dravidar Kazhagam cadres,” he alleged

Mr. Karunanidhi said of late the Hindutva forces in Tamil Nadu were indulging in all sorts of unwanted activities and the AIADMK government, now at the mercy of the BJP government at the Centre, was not taking any action.
