Karunanidhi slams Centre’s policy on MSMEs

May 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:26 am IST - CHENNAI:

DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Sunday slammed the Centre’s new policy, allowing big companies to produce 20 items that were reserved exclusively for micro and small enterprises (MSME) in the country.

In a statement here, he said the Centre’s decision to lift curbs on these 20 products would pave way for big companies gobbling up small industries. “On one hand, the Centre has allotted Rs 20,000 crore under Mudra scheme to help MSMEs and on the other it has opened the gate for big companies to manufacture the items meant for MSMEs. It should give up its contradicting stand and adopt a policy in favour of the MSMEs,” he said. Mr. Karunanidhi said the Centre had failed to take into consideration the consequences of its decision.
