DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Saturday said he would consult legal experts before chalking out the course of action against the Tamil magazine that published a controversial report about him. “I will decide whether to hold a demonstration in front of the magazine office or take action through the party,” he said in a statement.
Kumudam Reporter, a bi-weekly, carried a cover story comparing him and actor Kushboo with Dravidar Kazhagam founder E.V. Ramasamy and his wife Maniammal.
E.V.R.’s marriage with Maniammal led to a split in the organisation and the formation of the DMK in 1949.
Mr. Karunanidhi said: “My patience is wearing thin because of the activities of some journalists,” he said and called upon every unit of the party to refrain from buying such journals and magazines.
The DMK leader said if freedom of expression was important, social responsibility and ethics in journalism were equally important.
He said though the media published many unsavoury reports about the DMK in the past, he had not taken them seriously. “But is it fair to write indecently about a woman, who is living with her husband and children?” he asked.
