DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Sunday welcomed newly-elected CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s resolution to unite secular and democratic forces in the country.
In his message, the DMK chief also had recalled The Hindu ’s editorial, “Mr. Yechury believes in greater cooperation and coordination with other secular-democratic parties and in building a more broad-based front to deal with changing ground realities and the growing threats to secularism.”
“As everyone expected, he has been elected as the general secretary of the party,” Mr. Karunanidhi said and recalled Mr Yechury’s speech at the Classical Tamil conference held at Coimbatore in 2010.
PMK leader S. Ramadoss said Mr. Yechury had taken charge at a very crucial phase and expressed the hope that he would further strengthen the CPI(M).
Desiya Murpokku Dravia Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant said the clear vision and tireless work of Mr. Yechury would record a new era in the history of the CPI(M) and as well as in the national politics.
