In the wake of the revival of south-west monsoon, Karnataka on Thursday made a combined discharge of 19,105 cusecs from Kabini and Krishnarajasagar reservoirs.
The water is expected to reach the Stanley reservoir here by Friday noon.
Public Work Department sources here told TheHindu that while the Kabini reservoir, which has been receiving copious inflows owing to rain in its catchments in Kerala released 16,000 cusecs, the Krishnarajasagar facility had let out 3,105 cusecs.
“Though there may be some losses on way owing to utilisation of water for drinking and irrigation, we expect to receive somewhere between 17,000 and 18000 cusecs here tomorrow,” said a senior official.
As per statistics received from their counterparts in Karnataka, the Kabini reservoir has been receiving 22,271 cusecs since Thursday and water level stood at 62.04 feet against the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 65 feet. Live storage was 17.660 tmcft against gross capacity of 19.516 tmcft.
The Krishnarajasagar reservoir has been getting inflow of 14,874 cusecs with water level standing at 91.300 feet against FRL of 124.8 feet.
The resumption of the monsoon in Kerala and Karnataka after a lull has brought cheer among water managers here.
“If the monsoon remains strong and active in the days to come, we can reach out to the tailend pockets in the Delta region,” said an official.
The dam at 4 p.m. on Thursday was recording inflow of 4,363 cusecs.
It has been discharging 12,013 cusecs for Delta irrigation since Wednesday midnight. Live storage was 43.999 tmcft and the level stood at 82.020 feet.
