Kargil hero's daughter moves court for BDS seat

Admission sought under ‘special category' for children of ex-servicemen

July 29, 2010 01:34 am | Updated 01:34 am IST - CHENNAI:

The daughter of a Kargil hero has moved the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education here, to admit her to the first year BDS course in a government college for this academic year as specified in a Tamil Nadu G.O.

In her affidavit, R. Malliga of Viswanathapuram, Madurai, mother of M. Lokapriya, stated that she belonged to the Backward Class community. Her husband K. Manickam, who was a Naik Subedar in the Army, was killed in the Kargil war in August 1999.

The Tamil Nadu government had issued an order in September 1999 that the daughters of Manickam – Vaishnavi and Lokapriya – be given admission to arts/engineering/medical courses as desired by them, when they grew up, as a special case.
