Kalpa Druma, Chennai’s leading ethnic crafts, garments and home textile store for over a decade conducted its annual Arts and Artists Festival on September 22 and 23 at the Sivagami Pethachi auditorium at Mylapore. This event is dedicated to the memory of their founder K.S. Parameswaran, a connoisseur of music and patron of fine arts. An accomplished Carnatic vocal vidwan himself, his passion for arts and music was unmatched.
Each year Kalpa Druma’s two-day weekend event puts the spotlight on established and next generation artistes and has now become an integral part of the music calendar in Chennai that rasikas look forward to. This year’s event featured two fine concerts. On Saturday, violin duo Akkarai Sisters’ performance was accompanied by K.V. Prasad on the mridangam and Dr. S. Karthick on the ghatam.
The second day of the festival featured a vocal concert by Carnatic vocalist N. Vijay Siva and a distinguished disciple of D.K. Jayaraman. He was accompanied by Amritha Murali on the violin, J. Vaidyanathan on the mridangam and Anirudh Athreya on the kanjira. N. Vijay Siva enthralled a packed auditorium in a scintillating concert that lasted close to two and a half hours.
