Kalki , the Tamil magazine, stands for integrity and honesty; above all, it stands for freedom of thought and expression, Gopalakrishna Gandhi, former Governor of West Bengal, said here on Saturday.

He was speaking at the valedictory function of the platinum jubilee of Kalki weekly held at Kamarajar Arangam in the city.

Recalling his days with Kalki Krishnamurthy, who co-founded the magazine with T. Sadasivam, carnatic music legend M.S. Subbulakshmi’s husband, Mr. Gandhi spoke about Kalki ’s free thought, expression and frankness.

Kalki stands for continuity of honesty within the atmosphere of change. Honesty is a normal condition of a person, dishonesty is an abnormal condition. But now, normal has become abnormal and abnormal has become standard,” he said.

Mr. Gandhi said that Mr. Sadasivam was a big support for Ms. Subbulakshmi. “He was a gold digger. He found in Krishnamurthy a golden pen, in his wife Subbulakshmi, a golden voice, and in Rajaji, a golden conscience,” he said.

He said that the influence of Kalki was wide. He wanted the journal to expose the hollowness of money and be the voice of the voiceless.

He also released a souvenir to mark the platinum jubilee of the journal.
