Juvenile justice panel told to monitor implementation of its recommendations

November 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court has directed the Juvenile Justice Committee of the court to monitor implementation of its recommendations to handle juvenile justice related issues in the State, including appointment of 32 District Child Protection Officers. The First Bench headed by the Chief Justice S.K. Kaul passed the direction on a PIL moved by A. Narayanan of Change India organisation.

Earlier, the court appointed a committee comprising Justices S. Manikumar, R. Mala and K. Ravichandrabaabu and retired judge Justice G.M. Akbar Ali to make recommendations to handle juvenile justice related issues effectively. The committee filed a 66-page report consisting 15 recommendations.

When the petition came up for hearing, the Bench noted that in view of the very comprehensive report of the committee, its implementation should also be monitored by it. The court also directed the committee to specify the urgent works to be carried out and fix a time frame. If it finds any difficulty or impediment from any quarters, it can be brought to the notice of this court for necessary directions.

The Bench then posted the matter on January 29, 2016.
