Judge’s house burgled in Saidapet

August 12, 2016 04:43 am | Updated 04:43 am IST - CHENNAI:

Unidentified persons broke into the house of a judge — located near the Metropolitan Magistrate Court complex in Saidapet — and decamped with 50 sovereigns of gold.

A senior police official said the judge, Sreeja Srinivasan, had gone out on Thursday morning after locking her house and found the door open when she returned. She also found 50 sovereigns of gold missing.

The Kotturpuram police are investigating. Fingerprints have been lifted from the crime scene, said the officer, suspecting it to be an act of persons known to the judge’s family.

At Purasawalkam

In another incident at Purasawalkam, burglars broke into the house of Shahjahan, a resident of Vadamalai Street, after the family went out for attending a function and took away more than 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery.

The Vepery police have registered a case and are investigating.

At Washermanpet

Meanwhile, S. Anbazhagan, a resident of Washermanpet, gave a complaint that gold jewellery weighing 15 sovereigns was stolen from his home on Thursday.

Mr. Anbazhagan, along with his family at VOC Nagar in New Washermanpet, left to Tiruttani to attend a function early on Thursday, leaving their mother Muthammal at home. When she woke up around 5.30 a.m., she was shocked to find the back door broken open and gold and silver jewellery missing.
