Jeppiar commissioned as Colonel (Honorary)

Jeppiar, Chancellor, Sathyabama University, was commissioned as Colonel (Honorary), by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman Nicobar.

Like universities grant honorary doctorates, the NCC has been honouring educationists with honorary colonel post in recognition of their services to improve the human resources, said Commander BRM Vidyasagar, 4 (TN) Naval Technical Unit NCC.

Educationists offering facilities, manpower and training infrastructure are chosen by the directorate and recommendations are made to the headquarters which approves the commissioning.

Jeppiar has provided a firing range, camp area for training purposes and has been granting scholarships for children of war widows and war veterans, he said.

In recognition of his services for the NCC Directorate, Commodore Sartaj Imam, Deputy Director General, NCC, commissioned Jeppiar as honorary Colonel. Group Captain S. Murali, Group Commander, Group B (TN, P & AN) welcomed him.
