The Chairman of AMCO Batteries Limited Jayshree Venkatraman died here on Tuesday after a brief illness. She was 48 and is survived by her husband Murali Venkatraman, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of W.S. Industries and son Sriram.
Ms. Jayshree was also a Director of Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd. and TAFE Access Ltd. She took over as the Chairman of AMCO Batteries only last month following the demise of her father A. Sivasailam in January last.
Graduating from Stella Maris College, Chennai, she did her Master's in Business Economics from Ethiraj College. She did her MBA from the International Institute of Management (IMI), New Delhi.
She began her career 25 years ago with AMCO Batteries as Executive Assistant to the CEO and held various positions in operations, finance, marketing and strategy before heading the company. She was largely responsible for establishing a mighty facility for the production of lead acid batteries in Chennai. Her penchant for bringing in global quality led her to initial a technical collaboration pact with B.B. Battery &Co. China for producing VRLA batteries.
Ms. Jayshree organised a global seminar on “Women in Asia” in 2002. As Chairperson of the Women Managers Forum and the Centre for Family Business, she also organised a number of programmes. She was on the Board of Management of Stella Maris College and a past President of the Madras Management Association. She was instrumental in making the MMA a financially self-sustaining forum.
A simple and unassuming person, she was deeply religious. .
