“If the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government has so many achievements to its credit as claimed by Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, why is he shifting from his Thousand Lights constituency to Kolathur?” All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa raised this doubt at an election meeting at Ayanavaram, a part of Kolathur constituency, on Friday.

She wondered whether several members of his family becoming Ministers, Rs 1.7 lakh crore 2G spectrum scam, burning three employees of Dinakaran alive, unprecedented price rise, and so on, were the achievements he had listed.

She also wanted to know why Mr. Stalin had been frequenting London. “After the elections, Mr. Stalin will settle down in London with his family,” she added.

Ms. Jayalalithaa, who began campaigning in Chennai and adjacent constituencies on Friday afternoon, covered a number of constituencies, including Thousand Lights, Ambattur and Kolathur.

Responding to DMK president and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi who has appealed to people to exercise their democratic right after comparing the DMK rule with that of the AIADMK, she said: “That is what I also want to you to do.”

She lambasted the DMK government for what she called “total breakdown in law and order, unprecedented price rise and intolerable power cuts.”

Mr. Karunanidhi, she said, has no time to generate enough power to tide over the situation, and is more intent on importing coal.

According to her, this was not an election just to change the rulers “but to liberate the people of Tamil Nadu who remain enslaved by a family.” She also listed various programmes she planned to implement, including distribution of fan, mixie and grinder free.
