Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday paid homage to freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar on his 104th birth anniversary.
She visited the Thevar statue in Nandanam here and paid floral tributes to the portrait of Muthuramalinga Thevar kept under the statue. She was accompanied by her confidante Sasikala.
Though she used to visit Pasumpon village in Ramanathapuram district, the birthplace of Muthuramalinga Thevar, she could not make the trip this year because of security reasons. It was only recently that six Dalits died in Paramakudi in the district in police firing.
Her cabinet colleagues, however, were present at Pasumpon and paid homage at the leader's birthplace.
