Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa on Thursday greeted people on the eve of Deepavali.
“Let the festival of lights remove the darkness of ignorance, hatred and rekindle the spirit of love and compassion and promote unity and brotherhood. May this festival bring in peace, progress and prosperity among all,” Mr. Surjit Singh Barnala said in a Raj Bhavan release here.
Ms. Jayalalithaa said the festival of lights symbolises peace and prosperity and a reminder that Dharma will prevail over, despite being faced with difficulties.
“Let the festival bring in peace and brotherhood and light up everyone’s lives,” she said in a party statement.
BJP State unit President Pon Radhakrishnan said, though Deepavali was a festival of joy, people were, however, suffering due to price rise and other issues such as corruption and exploitation.
“Let us take a vow to put an end to such issues on this day,” he said, extending his Deepavali greetings.
In neighbouring Puducherry, Lt. Governor Dr. Iqbal Singh and Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam greeted the people on the eve of the festival.
