AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa campaigned for party candidates in 16 constituencies in the city on Wednesday.

Addressing the crowds at 16 points, she said her government had provided uninterrupted power supply in the past five years.

“During the previous DMK rule, there was no power for 10 hours and 15 hours and students couldn’t concentrate on their studies. The State was shrouded in darkness and law and order had deteriorated. Land grabbing was also rampant,” Ms. Jayalalithaa said, adding that she had taken steps to retrieve such lands and properties to restore them to their rightful owners.

She started from Poes Garden at 3.25 p.m. and was back home by 6.40 p.m. She told voters that her governance had been like the spring season and if they wanted it to continue they should vote for the Two-Leaves symbol.

The day’s tour was not part of her original campaign schedule announced earlier. It had been slotted on a day between two campaigns when she usually takes a break.

The campaign officially started at Ice House police station in Triplicane and ended at Maankollai in Mylapore.

She passed through 42 points including Elephant gate, Basin Bridge, Konnur High Road, Koyambedu, Anna Nagar arch, MMDA Colony, T.Nagar bus terminus, Alandur, and Kathipara.

Women showered flowers and showed arathi . Priests from various temples including Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Temple offered her Purnakumbam and prasadam .

She introduced the respective candidates at various constituencies covered during the evening.
