Jayalalithaa back in Chennai

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa, who left Chennai in May for Kodanadu, returned to the city on Friday.

She reached the Coimbatore airport in a helicopter and from there boarded a chartered flight to Chennai. She was given a rousing reception at the Chennai airport by party functionaries, MPs, MLAs and cadres.

A party release said Ms. Jayalalithaa will visit the party headquarters on Monday to distribute financial assistance to the families of 12 party cadres who were killed because of political rivalry. She would also extend assistance to poor members of the Anna Thozhirsanga Peravai, a trade union affiliated to the party. A total of Rs.17,50,000 would be distributed.

Ms. Jayalalithaa will again visit the party office on October 17 to take part in the 37th anniversary of the the party’s foundation day. She will release a special souvenir to mark the occasion.
