September 06, 2010 12:30 am | Updated 12:30 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Sunday wanted the State government to provide adequate protection in Muthupettai in Tiruvarur district and Kanyakumari district as both Vinayagar Chathurthi and Ramzan were being celebrated within a day of each other.

Talking to reporters in connection with Iftar feast organised by his party, IUML State president K.A.M. Kader Mohideen said he had already made a representation to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in this regard.

He said the State conference of the IUML would be held in Chennai on December 15 and the Chief Minister would be given the “Naaninal Potrum Nallinakka Nayagar Award” on the occasion.

Union Minister of State for Railways and IUML national president E. Ahamed said the one-month fasting during Ramzan should be the guiding principle for the whole year.
