A woman IT professional from Nanganallur allegedly committed suicide by consuming sleeping pills in a room in a five-star hotel in St. Thomas Mount on Thursday. Police identified the deceased as Ramalakshmi (25), a resident of Nanganallur Main Road and an employee of a leading IT firm here. The young woman left her house on Wednesday, on the pretext of going to a gift shop. When Ramalakshmi didn't return in the evening and her mobile phone was unreachable, her mother, Krishnaveni lodged a complaint with the Pazhavanthangal police.

On Thursday afternoon, St. Thomas Mount police received information that a young woman had been found dead in a room in a five-star hotel near the Chennai Airport. A police team found the woman's body, later identified as Ramalakshmi's, on the bed with some sleeping pills scattered nearby.

Investigations revealed that the young woman had checked into the hotel on Wednesday afternoon. She had called the front desk on Thursday afternoon and informed the staff that she was going to vacate the room. However, she didn't come down to the lobby or respond to attempts by staff members to contact her.

Finally, they opened the room with a duplicate key and found her dead.

St. Thomas Mount police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating further.
