For the first time, taxmen will pay a cash award of Rs.1 lakh, if you are able to design a mascot that would project the Income-Tax (I-T) department in a good light to young and future taxpayers.
Talking to The Hindu, chief commissioner of income tax -1 S. Sendamarai Kannan said “Tax payers have a wrong notion that we are here to take away their earnings. In fact, we also provide rewards or incentives to those who provide valuable information to us. To dispel their fears, that we are always after them, we have been conducting several awareness meetings in different parts of the country. This had led to an increase in voluntary tax compliance.”
The mascot, in any pose, should reflect the vision and values of the department. It should promote payment of tax as a value norm in society and a core duty of every citizen; as a contribution of citizens towards nation building and ensuring a better future for coming generations; depicting the department as an enforcement agency as well as a facilitator for voluntary tax compliance, another official said.
A person can send any number of entries along with a submission form. The design should be original, captivating, inspiring and easily adoptable to various means of communications of the Department.
The entries can be sent to Post Box No. 6005, New Delhi-110001 by subscribing the envelope ‘Mascot Design for Income Tax Department’ or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The submission form is available on www.incometaxindia.gov.in.
The contest is open only to artists and designers who could be either professionals or amateurs. It is on till September 23.
