The body of a five-month-old boy was found floating in a drainage in Korukkupet, Chennai, in the early hours of Thursday. The infant was reported missing from Wednesday evening. The police suspect it to be a case of murder.

Sources with the R.K. Nagar police said the boy christened Gokul was seen last by parents Rajesh, a lathe worker and Gomathi in their Ambedkar Nagar house in Korukkupet on Wednesday afternoon, after which he went missing. Mr Rajesh lodged a complaint with the R.K. Nagar police who registered a 'missing' case.

Early on Thursday, local residents spotted Gokul's body floating in a drain close to his residence. Police reached the spot and recovered the body. After preliminary investigations the body was sent to Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem. Further investigations are underway.
