Indian biotech expert honoured by China

An Indian biotechnology expert working in China has been conferred with the prestigious 'National Friendship Award' instituted by the Chinese government to honour foreigners working in that country.

Dr. Krishna B. Kumar, working as a foreign expert in Biotechnology in Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hangzhou, was presented the award by Chinese Vice-Premier Zhang Dejiang at a ceremony to mark the 60 th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.

“Prime Minister Wen Jia Bao met us individually and congratulated us,” Dr. Kumar, hailing from Kerala, said in a press release. The award ceremony was held at the Great Hall of People at Beijing on September 29.

The award has been established to honour the foreign experts for their contributions and dedication to China’s economic construction and social development. “This is the highest award given to any foreigner who has worked or is working in China,” he added.

The award is given every year to selected foreign experts. This year it’s special for it is the 60 th anniversary of the formation of People's Republic of China. The award was presented to 100 foreign experts all over the world, from various fields.
