Their ability or mastery may be known to many, but recognising them for it can inspire several others. In honouring such achievers with the ‘CavinKare Ability Award for Eminence' and ‘CavinKare Ability Mastery Award,' the Ability Foundation and CavinKare seek to do precisely that – tell their stories of grit and confidence.
Announcing that the 10th CavinKare Ability Awards for achievers with disability will be presented on February 18, Jayashree Ravindran of Ability Foundation said while the struggles of the disabled are known to many, people should also know about the Good Samaritan side, the achiever side and the happy side of persons with disability.
Music composer A.R. Rahman, jury member, said: “I have much to take from here, rather than give…in terms of inspiration.”
Very inspiring, he added, amid the whirr of hundreds of camera shutters.
The Award of Eminence is given to one person who has not only chosen a road less travelled, but has also demonstrated a commitment to others that goes beyond personal triumph.
The Mastery Awards are given to three persons with disability, who have demonstrated excellence in their chosen fields.
Murali Santhanam, Executive Vice-President (Human Resources), CavinKare, said the jury received as many as 131 nominations from 19 States.
Terry Thomas of Ernst & Young has been in-charge of process validation. “Right from the time we invited nomination through advertisements till the time the recipients were identified, the process has been fairly smooth,” he said.
Along with Mr. Rahman, on the jury were Mohini Giri, chairperson, Guild of Service, who chaired the jury, Leela Samson, director, Kalakshetra Foundation, Radha Mohan, film maker, N. Murali, Director, Kasturi & Sons Ltd., and Yatish Rajawat, group editor, Dainik Bhaskar.
