Implementation of traffic diversion in Nungambakkam and Madley subways is delayed

As repairs to the Madley and Nungambakkam subways in Chennai are planned, the city traffic police have announced diversions which are likely to be implemented either from Monday evening or Tuesday.

A top traffic police officer told The Hindu , “There is delay in implementation of the diversion which was to be implemented from Monday morning. Since PWD authorities have not started the work, we did not implement the diversions from the morning. If they start the work late night, we will implement the diversion from night in and around Loyola Subway, Nungambakkam.”

However, the diversion around Madley Subway in T. Nagar will be implemented after a day or two as the roads are choked with more traffic since Usman Road flyover was closed and many diversion were implemented in view of the demolition of Chennai Silks.

The officer said, “The demolition of work of Chennai Silks will be over tonight or tomorrow. Then we will open traffic on Usman Road flyover probably on Tuesday. After that, we will implement diversion around Madley as we already announced.”

 

MTC and heavy vehicles coming from EVR Salai towards Loyola subway will be diverted at EVR Salai-Nelson Manickam Road Jn. - Aminjikarai – Harrington Point – New Avadi Road Jn - Ega Jn – Gengu Reddy Jn- Right Turn – Gengu Reddy subway – East Spur Tank Road – Right Turn – Spur Tank Road – Left Turn – Sterling Point – Left Turn – College Road and reach their destination.

Vehicles (except heavy vehicles) coming from EVR Salai x Nelson Manickam Road Jn towards Loyola Subway will be diverted at Nelson Manickam Road x Metha Nagar Jn (Soban Babu Statue) - Left Turn – Metha nagar main Road – Officers Colony 1st Street - New Bridge - Venkatachalapathy Street – Right Turn - Harrington Road – Left Turn – Harrington Subway – Chetpet Point – Right Turn - Sterling Point – Left Turn – College Road and reach their destination (or) Nelson Manickam Road – Choolai medu Point – Left Turn - Namachivayapuram Bridge - Chari road – Harrinton Road – Right Turn - Harrington subway – Chetpet Point – Right Turn - Sterling Point – Left Turn – College Road and reach their destination.

All Vehicles coming from Choolaimedu High Road towards Loyola Subway will be diverted at Choolaimedu Point - Namachivayapuram Bridge - Chari road – Harrinton Road – Right Turn - Harrington Subway – Chetpet Point – Right Turn - Sterling Point – Left Turn – College Road and reach their destination.

All vehicles coming from Chetpet Point towards Sterling Road will not be allowed take right turn at Sterling point will be diverted at Sterling Point – Left Turn – College Road – Haddows Road – Nungambakkam High Road - Valluvarkottam High Road - Wheat Croft Road - Sterling Road to reach their destination.

A press release from Traffic Police said motorists travelling from West Mambalam towards T. Nagar can continue using the Madley subway and there is no change or diversion.

Motorists from T. Nagar intended to reach West Mambalam should take route via. South Usman Road, New Boag road, 70 Feet road, Aranganathan subway or Madley road, Muthurangam Salai, New Boag road, 70 Feet road and Aranganathan subway.
