The Chennai Traffic Police has made traffic modifications for the Independence Day celebrations to be held at St. George Fort on August 15.
The traffic arrangement would be in place from 6 a.m. till the function is over. As per the modifications the stretch of Kamarajar Salai from Napier Bridge to RBI subway between Rajaji Salai and Flag Staff Road will be closed for all vehicular traffic other than the vehicles with car passes.
Vehicles coming on Kamarajar Salai and intending to proceed towards Parry’s Corner via Rajaji Salai may take the route via Swami Sivananda Salai, Anna Salai, Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, Raja Annamalai Mandram and NFS Road to reach Parrys Corner.
Similarly, motorists coming from Rajaji Salai and intending to proceed towards Kamarajar Salai via Rajaji Salai may take the route via NFS Road, R.A. Mandram, Muthusamy Road, Muthusamy Bridge, Anna Salai and Wallajah Road to reach Kamarajar Salai.
The traffic police would be routing vehicles with different colour passes on certain routes. Vehicles with red passes and coming before 8 a.m. will have to take Rajaji Salai with the stop provided outside the Secretariat In gate with parking allowed inside the Secretariat. But vehicles arriving after 8 a.m. would be routed via Flag Staff Road and provided entry to St. George Fort through Wallajah Gate.
The vehicles displaying blue passes will take the either route of the two routes: Flag Staff Road and Wallajah Gate or Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, Esplanade Road, NSC Bose Road, Parrys Corner and RBI subway to reach Secretariat out gate. Vehicle parking has been provided at the PWD parking lot (opposite to Secretariat).
Those vehicles without passes will be stopped near War Memorial and the vehicles will be allowed to park inside Island Grounds with entry through Anna Salai.
MTC buses carrying volunteers of Road Safety Patrol and National Service Scheme will enter Island Grounds through VIP Gate.
