Hundreds run for an inclusive society

November 24, 2014 10:42 am | Updated 10:42 am IST - CHENNAI:

On Sunday morning, hundreds of people gathered at the Marina Beach to run for a cause – bringing excluded communities into the mainstream.

The homeless, the disabled, people affected with HIV/AIDS, children of migrant workers, tribal communities and unemployed youth continue to be on the margins of society and have to be made an integral part of it, representatives of NGO Aide et Action International- South Asia (AEAI-SA) that organised the event said.

The 5-km-run was flagged off at Gandhi statue.

Sivagami Sivasubbu, regional manager-AEAI-SA, Chennai, said, “Exclusion can harm peace, security and development. Inclusive societies unleash the potential of everyone.”

The run was organised simultaneously in 25 cities across India. The proceeds of the run would be used for quality education of children and enabling better employment opportunities for youths from the weaker sections of society.
