Hundreds participated in the ‘Eureka Run for Children’ organised by Eureka Child Foundation on the Marina on Saturday.

The event is organised around Children’s Day every year, since 2010, to create awareness on the need to improve the quality of education.

According to a press release, the Foundation runs tuition centres in around 600 villages in the State to help underprivileged children.

On Saturday, college students, professionals and retired officials braved the rain to participate in the 5-km run from Gandhi Statue to Anna Square and back.

The run was flagged off by actor Sivakarthikeyan and Vasanthi Devi, president of Aid India and former vice-chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. A. Ravishankar, director, Eureka Child Foundation, was also present. Baby Sanjana of Tamil film ‘Thangameenkal’ fame also participated in the run along with her parents.

Srinivasan. A, who works in a private finance company, said he enjoyed the run despite the rain. “I came with three friends and over 100 of my colleagues participated in the run. I run in the mornings as part of my exercise regime. This is the first time I participated in such an event. It was a fun morning on the beach,” he said.

Mr. Srinivasan also volunteers with the Eureka Child Foundation. “We organise competitions for the children and also take sessions on managing finance,” he said.

Groups of runners from several companies, including L&T Finance, HCL, L&T CAO, Newgen, Mindtree, Akshaya, PWC, Idea, Michelin, NTTData and Rane, participated in the run, which was held in three batches.
