Burglars broke into a house on Bhajanai Koil Street, Mangalapuram, Ambattur early on Wednesday and made off with 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs. 3 lakh.

However, police said there were no signs of a break-in.

According to Ambattur Estate police, the incident took place at the residence of a couple, Parameshwaran (47) and Vasuki (42) when they and their two children were asleep.

The complainants claimed the burglars gained entry after breaking open a door at the rear of the house and then entered the bedroom. They opened an almirah and stole the gold and cash from it.

The couple woke up in the morning and alerted the police. Investigators who examined the house said they did not find any signs of a forced entry. A case has been registered and a probe is on.
