An employee of Hotel Saravana Bhavan was arrested on charges of threatening the kin of a colleague who died in Dubai.

The police said Marshal (40), a manager with the restaurant chain, threatened T. Sakthivel (22) of Tiruchi, after the latter complained to the police about the ‘mysterious’ death of his brother T. Theivamani in Dubai. Theivamani worked as a waiter at the hotel’s Dubai branch.

On October 1, Marshal contacted Sakthivel and told him that his brother fell from the sixth floor of his residence in Dubai and died. The restaurant authorities promised to bring the body to India but took no efforts in that direction, Sakthivel said.

After he filed a petition with the commissioner of police here on Friday, the Vadapalani police registered a case under Sections 174 (unnatural death) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation).

Marshal was arrested on Saturday afternoon and remanded to judicial custody. The police also questioned Sivakumar, a proprietor of Hotel Saravana Bhavan, with regard to the case.
