The Ambattur police on Wednesday arrested a history sheeter who stabbed and injured an auto driver.

The police said that while M. Balasubramanian, the autorickshaw driver, was waiting in his stand in front of a school, the suspect John alias ‘Little’ John, 58, stabbed him and fled the scene. Balasubramanian was taken to hospital and is out of danger.

John was later arrested near a railway bridge. Investigations revealed that enmity developed between Balasubramanian and ‘Little’ John while they were in prison, where the latter was attacked by a group of prisoners. ‘Little’ John plotted to kill Balasubramaninan as an act if revenge, the police added.

‘Little’ John has 45 cases against him and has been detained under the Goondas Act six times.
