The Chennai Traffic Police have announced that action will be initiated against motorcyclists found not wearing helmets. The directive comes into force with effect from May 28.
According to police sources, a majority of fatal road accidents in the city involving two-wheelers were due to the riders not wearing helmets. Action would also be taken against owners of two-wheelers with irregular or fancy number plates.
The number plates should conform to the standards prescribed by the Motor Vehicles Act, the release said.
